Lady Gaga’s First HBO Concert Special to Air In May

On February 15, 2011, the President of HBO Entertainment, Sue Naegle announced the debut of Lady Gaga in a solo concert event on HBO which will broadcast on May 7, 2011. The special entitled “Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden” will be taped during the concerts scheduled on February 21st and 22nd of the pop singer’s sold-out world tour. The special will be produced by Jimmy Lovine, Vincent Herbert, Troy Carter and Lady Gaga. It will be directed by Lauriann Gibson who directed the majority of the pop star’s music videos. Ms. Naegle states in the press release that the “most exciting talent” currently in the business will be adding some special elements to the concerts on the nights of taping to enhance the experience for television viewers.

Since her album debut in 2008, Lady Gaga has won 5 Grammy Awards, 11 Music Video Awards from MTV, 2 People’s Choice Awards, 5 World Music Awards and 11 Billboard Music Awards. Her popularity is further evidenced by having the largest number of followers on Twitter at over 8 Million and her page on Facebook accumulating over 28 Million “likes”. The special will air a little over two weeks before her newest album, “Born This Way” is released on May 23.
