Whooping Cough Makes A Comeback
California state officials have counted over 3,000 confirmed and suspected cases of pertussis which is commonly called Whooping Cough.
California’s public health spokesman, Ken August, says that if your child has not been vaccinated, that child will be required to stay home if an outbreak occurs.
Whooping cough is rarely fatal in adults, but can be to infants who have not yet had the full series of shots.
The disease strikes young especially hard and seven infants have died to the disease in California this year.
The most common complication, and the cause of most deaths, is secondary bacterial pneumonia.
Whooping cough was once the leading cause of infant death but has been on the wane due to the advent of immunizations.
